KAREN’S BOOK REVIEW
Trad Wife
★★★★☆
Imagine Yesteryear meets The Stepford Wives! For the first 70% of this book, I thought I was reading a clever, darkly funny satire about the #tradwife phenomenon. And then, quite unexpectedly, it turned into a full-blown horror story! Mia Wright is the queen of the tradwife influencers, living an idyllic life on Black Swan Farm with her handsome husband, Steadman, seven children, and another baby on the way. Millions of followers adore her picture-perfect world, but journalist Jenny, whose own life and career have recently crashed, isn't buying it. When an essay Jenny writes goes viral, Mia personally invites her to spend a week at the farm for an exclusive interview. What begins as an opportunity to revive her career quickly becomes something more sinister. Behind the homemade bread, robotic smiling children, and curated domestic bliss lies a dark history involving a cursed town full of secrets, and a farm that is anything but bucolic. I won't give away more, except to say that this book takes some unexpected turns. It's entertaining, and genuinely creepy. You definitely need to enjoy a little horror to appreciate where this story is going, but I loved the ride!
Happy reading,
Karen
